Scale model of the ark, originally uploaded by Gasparino1.

After waiting well over a year for it to open, I finally made the trip up to Petersburg, Kentucky to visit the highly controversial yet undisputably well-done Creation Museum. This 27 million dollar state-of-the-art facility is doing what no other “Natural” History museum in the country is doing, and that is upholding the Holy Bible as true from the first verse of Genesis to the last verse in Revelation. They are standing against the culture and saying that not only does the bible say that the universe was created in a literal six, 24 hour day period; but creation itself, the fossil record, historical record, geology, astronomy, biology, etc. agree with this model. You know you’re not in your typical museum when the lobby boasts human children playing alongside young dinosaurs. You also know you’re not getting your typical bible story when you see dinosaurs in Eden and assertions that there were probably sauropods on the ark. And speaking of the ark, it is at the forefront of the creation model and is a crucial component in the “7 C’s of History” which I’ll talk about in a moment.  See, evolutionists and those that suppose the earth to be billions of years old, interpret the fossil record as a series of layers, layed down mostly uniformly over time and secular geologists have concurred that rocks and fossils found in the bottom layers are very old, even millions of years old. The Creation model however interprets these fossils differently. It sees the fossil record as evidence of a global flood, catastrophic in nature, that covered plants and animals quickly by mud and water (the only way fossils can be created), thus creating these burial grounds all over the earth in a short period of time. The Creation Model rejects the idea of a slow and gradual fossilization of life because for animals to die a normal death, outside of the flood, they would most likely be eaten by scavengers or decay before fossilization would ever occur. The reason we don’t see humans very often in the fossil record is because humans would have sought higher ground (see picture) and after drowning would float for awhile before gradually sinking to the bottom. Don’t let anyone think that these theories are based merely on conjecture. There is information for the scientist and layman alike. Take for instance a book called Thousands Not Billions by Dr. Don DeYoung. “Radiometric dating is one of the linchpins of evolutionary education today. Dr. Don DeYoung shatters this and other dating methods employed by evolutionists to cast doubt on the reliability of the Bible and its chronology of earth history.” (www.answersingenesis.com) Current dating methods assume that “half-lifes” or decays have been constant or uniform over time; but creationists have long believed that due to catastrophies like the flood, the decay rate hasn’t been constant throughout history. This book reports the findings of a team of scientists called the RATE team which shows that there are other dating methods such as the loss of helium from zircon crystals which are more reliable and which show that the earth is much younger than is being reported in mainstream science–literally thousands, not billions of years old.

Another assertion that is made by creationists is that dinosaurs were created on day six of creation along with man.  Now this means that dinosaurs would have lived beside people and not 65 million years ago.  There is a great body of evidence that supports this.  In recent years, dinosaur bones have been found that have unfossilized tissue and even blood cells still in them–not possible for something that is millions of years old.  There is also historical records of dinosaurs living among people, of course they were called by a different name–dragons.  Think of all the countries of the world which have dragon legends.  These could have been stories of real people’s encounters with dinosaurs (a name which wasn’t given to this animal until the 19th century).  There are cave painting that look like dinosaurs, the aztecs worshipped a flying reptile known as Quetzalcoatl, Saint George slays a dragon, and the chinese have one prominently displayed on public buildings, use them in dances, etc.  Another book that I really like that has amassed a collection of these dragon encounters is After the Flood by Bill Cooper.  This book is an anthropologists dream, or nightmare depending on how you look at it.  Dr. Cooper spent 21 years studying and collecting the information in this book which mainly traces the kings of Europe back to Noah’s son Japheth.  The documentation that included these geneologies also included stories of encounters with dragons.  These stories do not read like the modern-day fantasy novel, rather they are reported the same way an eye-witness might report a traffic accident or the weather.  They were encounters with real animals that required real human strength and weapons to combat.

If you desire to read further on any of these topics, may I suggest the following books, all of which can be purchased from www.answersingenesis.orgEvolution: A Theory in Crisis by Dr. Michael Denton (a balanced non-creationist perspective), and The New Answers Book by various authors.  There is also a tract on the 7 C’s of History, which are Creation, Corruption, Catastrophe, Confusion, Chaos, Christ, the Cross, and Consumation.  If you walk into the Creation Museum you will walk through all of these and hopefully it will build your faith.
